Madonna has suffered a small setback in her plans to complete the adoption process for Malawian baby David Banda have - because Malawian child welfare authorities can't afford the flight to the U.K.
The Malawian welfare officer from was expected to travel to London in May this year to determine whether baby David can be officially adopted by the pop superstar and her movie-director husband Guy Ritchie, who brought him back to the U.K. from a Malawian orphanage in October 2006.
But Penston Kilembe, the director of Malawi's child welfare services, admits the authorities have faced financial difficulties which have forced them to postpone their official visit until later this year.
He says, "We have been unable to travel because of logistical problems. You know it requires some resources for me to travel." However, Kilembe hinted the Hollywood couple have already met all of their adoption requirements.
He added, "What we expect (to see from the visit) is that the child must be provided all the necessities of basic needs for him to grow up." Kilembe hopes to make the trip to the U.K. by the end of August.
