Britney Spears

The recently troubled pop star, Britney Spears made her (attempted) career comeback at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night with an opening number featuring her new single "Gimme More."

Britney kicked off VMAs at the Palms in Las Vegas in a sparkly bra and briefs with a club-ready performance of her latest song "Gimme More."

Britney, who reportedly worked with illusionist, and alleged lover Criss Angel for the performance, as Britney mimed to the songs, while women strippers paraded around on the stage.

Following Britney's performance,  comedian Sarah Silverman said. "Was that incredible? Britney Spears, everyone," Silverman said. "Wow. She is amazing. She is 25-years-old and she's already accomplished everything she's going to accomplish in her life. It's mind blowing."

And 'Lonely' singer, Akon told People magazine: "That could have been better. She needed to focus more. She looked nervous and I think the pressure got to her."

Again, according to People magazine, R&B star  Mary J. Blige wished the troubled pop singer all the best. "I absolutely think Britney could make the comeback," Blige said on the telecast. "Someone who's been through as much as she's been through – you just want her to win. I know I want her to win."
