It has been announced that actor Matthew McConaughey is to replace replace Owen Wilson in new comedy 'Tropic Thunder', following Owen's recent suicide attempt.

McConaughey is to have a cameo role alongside actors Jack Black, Robert Downey Jnr. and British actor Steve Coogan in the new movie that is being directed by  Ben Stiller.

McConaughey is expected to start filming in the next few weeks.

'Tropic Thunder' is a comedy about a group of actors shooting a war movie on a deserted island that is attacked for real.

38 year-old Wilson pulled out of the film after a suicide attempt in August, where he allegedgly slit his wrists after struggling to cope with his split from his actress girlfriend Kate Hudson.

A friend of Owen Wilson -  Wes Anderson, recently claimed the actor was "doing well and making us laugh a lot".
