Mel B forces husband to sign over $5m home
Spice Girls star Melanie B has reportedly forced her new husband, Stephen Belafonte to sign away all rights to her new $5 million Hollywood Hills home.
32-year-old Brown, also known as Scary Spice bought the plush pad after landing her $20million deal to tour with the Spice Girls.
However, Mel's new hubby has reportedly been ordered to sign a contract confirming that she is sole owner of the 3,500 sq ft pad.
Mel is said to be blissfully in love with film producer Stephen. But she wants to protect her assets after a costly divorce from former hubby Jimmy Gulzar.
A friend of Mel's told British newspaper The Sun: “Mel learned a lot from her divorce.
“She is smart enough to know she has to protect herself and her children.
“Stephen was happy to sign the form giving up rights to the property. He is not after Mel’s cash.”
Mel, who married Stephen in Las Vegas in June following her difficult relationship with actor Eddie Murphy.moved into the new pad - located in an exclusive area packed with millionaires in August with her daughters Phoenix, eight and Angel, five months.
Mel wed Gulzar in 1998 but the marriage lasted just a year. He asked for $2.4million but only received $1.5million
The Sun also reports that under California law, a spouse is entitled to up to 50 % cent of earnings and property unless they sign a ‘quit claim deed’ form.
Brown is also battling it out with Eddie Murphy, the father of daughter Angel over his paternal responsibilities, and will find out her maintenance figure at a Los Angeles hearing on November 14.
Mel is currently on US TV’s Dancing With The Stars, after shedding two stone since giving birth.
