Oprah Winfrey's call for justice on abuse controversy
Oprah Winfrey has called for justice on an abuse controversy at one of her academies for girls, People.com reports.
The arrest of a dorm matron at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls in South Africa, in Johannesburg. The suspect, whose name has not been released by police, faces a court appearance on Monday to seal her fate.
"I'd like to thank the South African Police Services for bringing this investigation at my Academy to a timely resolution," Winfrey, 53, said on Friday, the day that the arrest was announced amid allegations of sexual and physical abuse.
The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, is due in court on Monday.
"I am grateful for their compassion and sensitivity to the girls during this difficult time. It means the world to me," Winfrey continued.
"It is my deepest hope that the accused is brought to justice and that this serves as a reminder that any time a child has the courage to step forward, it is our duty as adults to listen and take immediate action."
