World News: Friends of Amanda Knox claim they’ve received death threats

Meredith KercherFriends of alleged lust-crazed murder suspect Amanda Knox claim they’ve received death threats for standing by their pal.

The group - who were listed on Knox’s Facebook and MySpace accounts - said the menacing calls began when Knox, 20, became a suspect in the murder of British exchange student Meredith Kercher.

“The callers have British accents but their numbers are blocked,” said one friend who asked not to be named.

“I was told to stop defending Amanda or ’something bad would happen to me.’”

Friends and family in Knox’s hometown of Seattle, Washington, have reacted with disbelief over her arrest.

Many have spoken out expressing their shock at the accusations.

Students at the University of Washington, where Knox studied languages and creative writing, described her as a caring, shy girl who ‘wouldn’t harm a fly’

“This is not something she would do,” said former housemate Madison Paxton.

An Italian judge ruled today / yesterday (Fri) that the University of Washington student could remain in jail for up to one year while the investigation into the death continues.

Knox’s Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 24, and Diya Patrick Lumumba, 38, who she worked for, will also remain in jail.

All three have denied involvement in Kercher’s death.

Kercher’s body was found in the house that she Knox and two other women shared in the central Italian city of Perugia.

Kercher died after her throat was slashed.

Plus, im sure your not THAT stupid to leave your numbers on a website. So how did these “british callers” get there number?

if your that stupid to leave your number on a website, dont be surprised if people prank call you about ANYTHING

  2. This article is crap. Typical irresponsible tabloid hype yet again. Obviously, this article was cobbled together from news reports on the web and then spiced up by the writer.

    Death threats? British accents? Puh-lease!

  3. People were getting threating messages through myspace. I know this for a fact and they weren’t American, they were proud of it too.

  4. “When she arrived in Perugia for a three-month stay, Ms Knox, 20, was seen as an all-American sweetheart, a soccer player of note and an accomplished rock climber.

But something happened to her in those three months, according to people within the university community of the Umbrian hill town. At some point, apparently quite early on in her stay, she lost control. “ The Times, 10/11/07

A young American may have a hard time to come to terms with the fact that the foundations of their own identity are built on ideological aspirations (freedom, liberty and the American Dream). These are “ideas”, they are unsubstantial in nature. Older civilizations such as Europeans have tradition embedded into their identity (simple examples are having a nice cuppa, going out for a baguette). However simplistic, hanging on to the substance of these things helps us understand who we are and where we come from, it’s even something we are poised to defend.

I would not be the first person to claim that American youth are disillusioned; there is no morality in leadership so therefore they just move away to other things but it doesn’t really move them closer to anything they can believe in or hold on to.

Most people who call themselves true Americans have no more cultural identity than they can read back to themselves in the pledge allegiance and a flag to hang out on the front porch. Everything else is borrowed or new.

  5. Amanda Knox is an amazing person, regardless of what ANYONE says.
I personally have met her on numerous occasions. Through the time that we had spent together, I came to know Amanda as being a fun, loving, kind, sweet hearted person who went out of her way to help others.
I do not believe Amanda was involved in the murder of Meredith. She is not that kind of a person. Why would she have said, in her blog, that she loved her new place in Italy, and loved her new roomates?

Yes. Officals may have found her footprints, and Yes, she may have claimed to hearing Merediths screams, but who is to say that she is guilty of MURDER.

There is NOT enough evidence (at least that I have found) to prove her giulty.
Maybe her footprints were found becasue she ran into the room where Meredith’s dead body lay, in shock and afraid, hoping that her friend wasnt killed!
She claims she was not in the room during the killing, but rather heard the screams of her flatmate from outside the room, and covered her ears. Maybe she covered her ears because she didnt want to hear her friend dying!!!

Amanda is a loving girl who would never do such a thing!
Dont judge her if you dont know her.

  6. Hi friend of Amanda - I’m American and I’m judging this twisted slut -how many times does she have to change her story to finally look suspicious in your eyes? You’re either monumentally naive or just a fucking idiot - she’s trash and you must be too to defend this filth

    Comment November 13, 2007

  7. Well said. I can’t understand people that defend someone who is accused of murder, and a horrific one at that. She may be innocent of the murder itself, but she had something to do with it. What innocent person changes their mind THREE times. She’s now changed her story to say she wasn’t there at all, but CCTV seems to prove she was. She’s guilty of something, just we’ll have to wait to find out how much. If she is guilty, she’s a vile bitch and deserves to rot in jail.

  8. Fucking Brits.

Always threatening us Americans with their bad teeth and good shoes.

    Bloody Wankers!

    Comment November 13, 2007

  9. It’s horrible that anyone would threaten someone because they’re a friend of an accused suspect. It’s just stupid and makes no sense. If the friend isn’t involved, what have they got to do with anything?

I happen to think the 3 are guilty btw.

    Comment November 14, 2007

  10. Why is it anyone who gets on the tabloid papers gets death threats? Is it some national past time? An old charter or tradition? Seems us Brits need a clout of the real life right round the collective mug.

Ashamed if this report is true.

    Comment November 14, 2007

  11. Um, it’s “you’re”, not “your”. As in ” if your that stupid…”

Shouldn’t the British know that? Really, not just trying to be a b#tch. I assume you’re British since you used the word rubbish….

Sorry, one of my major pet peeves.

  12. From America… two nations could not be more supportive of each other than GB and the USA … stop with the rubbish.

Wait for the truth to come.
    It surley will.

    Comment November 15, 2007

  13. The only people who know for sure what happened are the people who committed the crime, all the rest is speculation. People are meant to be innocent until proved guilty, and so I think we should let the police get on with their forensic work and refrain from judging until we know more. Certainly death threats to friends of those that are held in custody is totally unacceptable behaviour and in the UK is an offence, so those that received them should report the matter to the police.

    Comment November 15, 2007

  14. I just read a comment from November 11 from some ignorant jerk who claims that most true Americans have no cultural identity other than what has been “borrowed” or “new”. Gee, what else might it be?

    Comment November 16, 2007

  15. As an American student studying abroad in the UK, I am so sick of the unrelentless ripping that I get for this notion that we have “no cultural identity”… and that we’re struggling to come to terms with it. Going out for a “cuppa” is something we do too, believe it or not.

    Comment November 26, 2007

  16. Probably, she was a good girl while living in the U.S., but once whe went abroad, she lost herself. It’s sad parents spend so much money in education and their kids dont’ appreciate it. Amanda, what a shame you were up to your ears in drugs and how convenient to say that you are so confused. Poor British girl.

    Comment November 26, 2007

  17. Gosh. These poor VICTIMS! I grieve for those poor people who have been treated so badly for supporting their beloved freak-show, Amanda. Boo (sniff) hoo (sniff). As for what’s-her-name, “Meredith”, How dare she have the bad grace to bleed on Foxy & Raffi’s priveleged lives. Poor, poor Amanda. Rally ’round, Seattle!

    Comment November 28, 2007

  18. “Probably, she was a good girl while living in the U.S”

Ya reckon? Nah, just rich white, and in Seattle,

which has the best politics a strip club can buy.

  19. How do you cover your ears when your friend is screaming in the other room and not try to help her? Amanda Knox is a fucking idiot who once again, helps reinforce the “Ugly, dumb fuck American” image.

    Comment January 25, 2008

  20. This is a horrific case in which even the police don’t seem to know all of the facts yet. The idea (as has been repeated many times over in statements above) is that you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. Funny how people like O.J. Simpson (due to his celebrity status) is deemed ‘not guilty’ when the evidence weighs heavily against him. On the other hand, you have a young American girl, Amanda Knox, who is not shy about the fact that she likes sex. Double standards are always in play. Men are studs and women are sluts. I don’t approve and have a much stronger moral compass for myself where sex in concerned. That does not mean that she should be judged soley by this fact.

We are all entitled to our individual opinions. However, it does seem fairly ridiculous to me that people are trying to lump all young Americans into the same group. Not everyone is lost and confused. I am American and know a great many respectable, good people. I know plenty of “bad eggs” as well. It doesn’t matter where you are from. you can go anywhere in the world and come up with a generalized idea of who people are and where they fit in stereotypically. I am by no means wealthy, never finished college and have plenty of family living in other countries as well. And I don’t understand how people can just accuse ALL Americans of having demented aspirations to guide them through life. That’s insane. Our country is still young so obviously we do not have the same time-frame where history is concerned. That does not mean that we are vile and uncultured or even disillusioned. As they say, it takes all kinds of people to make this world go round. Perhaps the people making these hasty comments don’t truly know any Americans and/or have never been to our country. Grow up!

  21. Wow I couldn’t even finish reading all the comments. It’s no wonder our judicial system is so screwed up, the pool we have to choose from as Jurors are so judgemental, are so screwed up no wonder the innocent get put behind bars. No one knows the truth but the criminals themselves, the police will not reveal all, and the media is not always 100% accurate, We would all benefit from not passing judgement so soon. I’m feeling like Amanda and her friends are lucky they are not going to face a US Jury. Said to say so so sad.. But look what we’ve come too. It seems she has already had her day in court, and the evidence isn’t even laid out yet.
