Pete Doherty writes rehab diary; fears he will die or go mad
Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has revealed that he is terrified he will die or go mad unless he kicks crack and heroin - in a diary Pete penned in rehab.
According to British newspaper The Sun, Doherty described how drugs have plagued his life and ruined his relationship with his 4-year-old son.
28-year-old Doherty, who recently split with model Kate Moss wrote in the diary - which was later leaked by a worried friend of the 'Babyshambles' rocker to The Sun newspaper: “If I had not been chemically dependent my life would have been extremely manageable.
“No jail, no rehab, normal functioning friendships and relationships and a lucrative, respectable career.
“I would probably own a house, a driving licence and a better reputation.
“If I don’t pack in drugs, particularly crack and heroin, I am likely to either die, go bankrupt, go mad or end up permanently institutionalised. I’m on a direct course for all four.”
Last night, Doherty’s friend insisted that the diary entries needed to be made public for Pete's own good.
The friend told The Sun: “I want this in the public domain because I want Pete to remember how determined he was to get clean and stay clean.
“It was awful to see him back using heroin in The Sun last week.” - after he was pictured injecting himself with drugs - shortly after arriving home from the MTV European Music Awards.
The friend added “He really needs help. Pete desperately wants to sort himself out but he can’t give up drugs.”
Doherty also wrote in his diary: “My baby’s mother has always kept my son at a distance in the light of my active addiction. This has caused me severe loss in terms of missing out on a potentially beautiful relationship with the young fella.”
Another entry reads: “My addiction has seen me banned from many establishments, and even in one case I was Asbo’d from the whole of London.
“The cancellation of tours, contracts and individual appearances has cost me untold financial benefits.”
