Offbeat news: Yorkshire twins hope to double their chances of being crowned Miss England 2008

Two sexy Yorkshire twins are hoping their identical looks will double their chances of being crowned Miss England 2008.

Blonde bombshells Kirsty and Sara Harden, 21, wanted to join forces to compete as one in the beauty contest but organisers have insisted they compete separately.

The 5ft 6in stunners from Rotherham will now have to go head to head in their area heat over the next month if they have any chance of progressing in the competition.

The dancers are so similar their friends have trouble telling them apart, so the judges will certainly have their work cut out.

Kirsty said: "We wanted to compete as one. Twins have never represented England before and we thought we could be in two places at once but organisers said it just wasn't possible.
"Sara and I have never really competed against each other before but we are being really supportive of each other.

"People always ask us if we like being twins but it's all we've ever really known."

Sarah added: "We both really want to get through to the finals of Miss England and if we won we could help each other with guest appearances."

Angie Beasley, director of Miss England, said: "The girls couldn't compete together but they both have very good chances of doing well in the competition."

While current Miss England Georgia Horsley is away competing for the Miss World crown in China, the search is on to find someone to take over her crown.

Regional heats will be held all over the country over the next few weeks with the finals taking place in July and August.
