Jessica Simpson says she needs a "real man"

Jessica Simpson turns TV host - and says she needs a real man.

The Dukes of Hazzard beauty was a guest host on US daytime talk show, The View.

And when asked how her love life was, the 27-year-old actress and singer said she was done with dating boys.

She said: "I'm kind of married to my music right now, focusing on writing an album. As far as boys go, I don't need them. I want a man.

"Somebody who's a really great family guy.

"Like if a kid were to come up to him and tug on his shirt, he'd pick him up and twirl him around.

I definitely love a family man, a guy that's not afraid to pick up the babies. Somebody that wants to meet my grandparents immediately.

"I think all those characteristics are what make a man attractive.

"[But] if he has a cute butt, that's alright."

She told her co-hosts: "I think mentally, I need a guy that can really have a strong, confident woman."

But she said she didn't need a man with money.

She laughed: "I got that covered."

Simpson was previously married to Nick Lachey.

Since they divorced in June 2006 she has been romantically linked to singer-songwriter John Mayer, and more recently, actor Owen Wilson.

But Simpson also said she fancied Bourne Ultimatum star Matt Damon, unveiled this week as the "Sexiest Man Alive" by US magazine, People.

When her co-hosts on the ABC show brought out a copy on Thursday's episode, Simpson said: "Hot Damon! "For sure."
