Marie Osmond opens up about her son entering rehab

Marie Osmond opened up about her son entering rehab on a US chat show.

The Dancing with the Stars star appeared as a guest on Larry King Live on Wednesday night with brother Donny, in an Osmond's special.

King broke the news, knowing that Marie's 16-year-old son Michael had entered an undisclosed rehabilitation center, and asked how she was coping.

The shocked performer first asked King how he knew, but to her credit answered openly about her young sons plight. 

Marie said: "This last week, with my dad passing, was hard for many reasons. That was one of them. My son was put into a rehab. It's really hard, but it's a reality. Seventy-five percent of kids under the age of  18 are dealing with this.

It's affecting every single family in our country. They're having these so called 'pharm parties,' where they go and steal medicines out of their parents' medicine cabinets and they dump  them in a bowl and they just take them until they pass out."

Marie also revealed that Michael, who is one of Osmond's five adopted children, was struggling with adoption issues.

She told King: My son is amazing. He is dealing with a lot. He's one of my kids. He's dealing with adoption issues, all kinds of things right now.

Osmond has been a revelation on Dancing with the Stars and has made it through to next week's semi-finals.

The star also revealed how she has lost close to 30 pounds, due to her extensive training on the hit ABC series, and urged people to use dance as a form of exercise.

Marie said: "Exercise is crucial. But it's fun exercise. Every woman my age should get out, exercise, go dancing. Do something fun."

The Osmond kin remembered their dad, George in a funeral service in Utah last week.

He died from natural causes, aged 90 on 6 November.
