Tom Cruise to play Hugh Hefner in playboy movie?
Tom Cruise is being tipped to star as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in a new movie.
Hollywood sources say the Top Gun actor is wanted to play the 81-year-old adult magazine publisher in an upcoming biopic.
Film-maker Brett Ratner, who has been hired to direct the flick, is said to have sent the script to Cruise.
A source revealed: "He is eyeing the role of Hef.
"Cruise is tickled by the project, although no decision has been made."
Oliver Stone was in the running to direct the Universal Pictures production, but was recently replaced by Ratner.
The film - which has the working title Playboy - will chart the life story of Hefner, who founded Playboy Enterprises in 1953.
Cruise, 45, can currently be seen on screen in anti-war drama Lions for Lambs alongside Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.
A spokeswoman for Cruise told a US newspaper: "A lot of people consider Tom for a lot of roles."
Playboy has been penciled in for a 2009 release.

Tom Cruise is such a great
Tom Cruise is such a great actor he can play anything, anyone, anytime.
he rocks.
But Hefner doesn't deserve a movie, please. Hef is an ass.
Anyway, cruise acting is unbeleivable in MI:III.
He's the biggest - if not the tallest - film star in the world by a country mile - and his presence in a movie can add incalculable millions to its box-office takings.Somewhere inside Tom is a closet masochist. Somebody who likes to sob and sniff and reach into his darkest places.
He puts the characters he plays through absolute hell.
No Cruise movie is complete without at least one scene of barely controlled anguish. He acts darn well using his only his tear-ducts and a quivery lip.
But any move to get Tom the counselling he so clearly needs, should be discouraged because, while he's doing this to himself, he's making great movies.
Mission Impossible III is one of the best action thrillers in years.
It has heart, great dialogue and astonishing set-pieces.
Yes, it's overblown and silly in places but there's no doubt that Tom believes in what he's doing.
One scene, in which he's trying to talk his nemesis out of killing the woman he loves, is so powerful that it belongs in a more Oscar-friendly vehicle. He really can act.
I personally make it a point
I personally make it a point NOT to see any movie with Tom Cruise. It would be a shame to have Tom play Hugh; I admire Hugh, but not enough to overlook how much Tom disgusts me.
oh my, what are they running
oh my, what are they running out of movies to make, sick by, th world is pretty missed up for sure
