TV Up Close: Ugly Betty based on Bridget Jones

Welcome to the second installment of our TV Up Close series of reports on a week's worth of television from the UK.
Firstly, news has materialized that America Ferrera has revealed that her character (Ugly Betty) is very much based on an English character inspiration - Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger), still played by a US actress though.
She told the Mirror: "Bridget Jones was absolutely something that popped into my head when I first read the script. I just love her openness."
Next on the list, the BBC's Children in Need campaign has come up trumps as more than £19 million is raised for children who need special help around Britain and around the world. This great cause has touched the hearts of many, and its record breaking sum was met by appreciation from the whole audience, most notably of course the veteran presenter Terry Wogan.
"We are overwhelmed by the response of the British public tonight and want to say a big thank you to all those who donated or Did Something Different for Pudsey," said David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children In Need.
Last year's total topped £33 million, so hopes for £40 million is still on the horizon, as Britain celebrates another brilliant year for the charity event.
And finally (my goodness, is this News at Ten?), popular saucy UK cook Nigella Lawson has claimed she felt like an "elephant" during her show tenure, reports have told Showbiz Spy.
