Chris Daughtry scoops three American Music awards
American Idol reject Chris Daughtry was celebrating after his band scooped three American Music awards - sharing the limelight with Justin Timberlake and Carrie Underwood.
Daughtry won every award they were nominated for, including favourite pop/rock album for 'Daughtry, as well as breakthrough artist and adult contemporary artist.
Frontman Chris said: "Wow. I can't believe we're in the category with Justin Timberlake and Linkin Park. It's pretty awesome."
Chris Daughtry and his band finished fourth on the highly publicised fifth season of American Idol. His band's self-titled debut album managed to shift more than 1 million copies after just five weeks of release.
Daughtry shared the spoils with other 'Idol' contestant Carrie Underwood, who also scooped three wins for favourite female country artist, favourite country album for 'Some Hearts,' and the T-Mobile text-in award voted for by fans.
In her enthusiastic acceptance speech, she said: "Thank you fans for going out and buying this album. You guys are amazing. This is one heck of a night."
Just Timberlake was a winner on the night, winning two awards, one for male pop/rock artist and the soul/R&B album award for his 'FutureSex/LoveSounds."
Timberlake, who is currently on tour in Australia accepted his award via a satellite link. He quipped: "This is awesome. The requirements are you have to be male and an artist. Luckily I am both."
Beyonce also walked off with an award winning the special International Artist award, which has only been given previously to Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart and Aerosmith.
The annual American Music Awards took place at the Nokia theatre in LA. Now in its 35th year, it still manages to attract the cream of world music.
