Nicole Richie has Wizard of Oz themed baby shower

Nicole Richie got into the spirit of motherhood with a swish baby shower party in L.A.

Around 90 people attended the secret bash at the plush Beverly Hills Hotel.

Richie was joined by mother Brenda, sister Sophia, boyfriend Joel Madden and a host of celebrity friends, including Paris Hilton, The Hills star Lauren Conrad and DJ Samantha Ronson.

Richie looked elegant in a simple black dress, and customary large sunglasses, with her bump visible through her small frame.

Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton also looked stunning, opting for a summer look with a dress decorated in a blue pattern.

The bash, which kicked off at midday, was themed after Nicole's favourite movie, 'The Wizard of Oz.'

It was an invite only event, with tight security monitoring the hotel lobby, and girls with clipboards vetting arriving guests.

Richie, Madden and her family were the last to leave the party, when it came to a close at 4.30.

Richie and rocker Madden announced the pregnancy in July, when rumours were rife that Nicole was expecting.

The Simple Life star has not revealed the sex of her baby, but a US magazine reports that presents given to Richie at the shower were - baby trainers for a boy and a Tummy T Jack maternity shirt with a picture of a boy on the front.

Close friend Paris Hilton was overheard in the Beverley Hills hotel lobby giving her blessings to Nicole.

She said: "I am so happy for her, it's really great. I can't wait for them "

The Hills star Lauren Conrad was also complimentary towards the expecting couple.

Conrad said: "I am so pleased for them both. They are such a nice couple."

The baby is expected in January 2008.

Madden recently told a US magazine how he can't wait for fatherhood. He said: " This is the most exciting thing that has happened to me, and to us."
