Greg Norman bids to halt divorce settlement to ex-wife
Golfer Greg Norman is bidding to halt part of his massive £50 million divorce settlement to his ex-wife after she publicly attacked his new love, tennis great Chris Evert.
The 52-year-old Australian has filed a lawsuit claiming former wife Laura Andrassy breached the terms of their two-month-old settlement by talking about their doomed 26-year marriage.
Andrassy, 57, slammed 52-year-old Evert in interviews, claiming the former Wimbledon favourite wrecked her marriage by pursuing her husband.
"She came after him - I've never seen anything like it," Andrassay said of Evert.
"I never thought anyone would be so aggressive in pursuing him in front of me like I didn't exist.
"I really didn't have a lot of respect for her as a woman - she is not a great person."
Andrassy described in intimate details how Evert befriended her while visiting the Normans' home on Jupiter Island, Florida, then moved in for the "kill."
She said she suspects Evert, then married to former Olympic skier Andy Mill, first hooked up with her then-husband last year when the two couples were on a fishing trip.
Mill has blamed Norman - known as the Great White Shark - for the failure of his 18-year marriage. He fumed: "A year and a half ago, I'd have taken a bullet for this guy. I didn't realise he was going to pull the trigger."
Norman, now set to marry Evert, is furious his ex-wife allegedly breached the terms of the divorce settlement with a number of newspaper interviews.
He filed his lawsuit just days after a judge threw out a bid by Andrassy to have Evert hauled before a court to give evidence about their relationship.
Norman's court papers claim he has been 'damaged' as a result of Andrassy's public outburts. It adds that he "paid substantial consideration to the Former Wife in exchange for her agreement to adhere to the privacy and confidentiality provisions of the agreement."
Former flight attendant Andrassy has denied breaching the terms of the divorce settlement, telling the Palm Beach Post:
"The confidentiality agreement is really not that specific, and besides I didn't talk about Greg. I talked about me and Chris, and I have no agreement with her."
Norman's Chief Financial Officer Jack Schneider would only say: "At least we abide by our agreement."
