Marc BannermanFormer actor Marc Bannerman was the first to be booted off I’m A Celebrity last night.

Just hours before the former 'Eastenders' star was kicked off the show - his girlfriend Sarah fled Australia.

Bannerman's girlfriend, Sarah Matravers flew home as Marc was busy cosying up to singer Cerys Matthews.

And after being evicted Marc, 34, admitted he had “embarrassed himself” on the show as he struggled with his feelings for the former Catatonia singer.

Marc said: “Being in the jungle is a very strange scenario and I met someone who I connected with on a very deep level.

“I’m shocked that I could have such a deep relationship with Cerys and I tried so hard not to hurt anyone. Nothing happened. But I struggled with my emotions. I still am. I’m terrified.

“Cerys is a fantastic girl. We got on very well.” Marc said he was in “shock” after discovering actress Sarah, 33, had returned to Britain. Looking tearful, he said: “I’m going to have to apologise. I’ve embarrassed Sarah and myself.”

Bannerman then went on to claim he had gotten close to Matthews because he “craved a bit of love”.

He admitted the pair had enjoyed an “intense relationship” but claimed: “Nothing’s going on. I didn’t expect it to happen.

“I was shocked I could have an intense relationship with Cerys and I tried not to let it affect me but it’s difficult. You crave a little bit of love — I’m still struggling with my relationship.”

Marc, along with ex-Apprentice star Katie Hopkins were the camp's least popular celebs in the first public vote of the series.

Before flying back home to London, Matravers admitted: “I’d love to be able to forgive him but I’m so confused. I have so much to say to him but that has to be behind closed doors.

Marc added last night: “I’ve got a phone call to make — I’ve got to get home and sort things.” But he revealed he had liked his time on the jungle show, saying: “The first four days I had such a laugh.”
