Hulk Hogan's marriage was a TV sham, according to U.S. reports.

The wrestling superstar, real name Terry Bollea, and wife Linda have been separated for months but played happy families to keep their reality TV show 'Hogan Knows Best,' on the air it has been claimed.

Linda Bollea, 48, filed for divorce on Wednesday. News of the split didn't reach her 54-year-old hubby  until Friday when he was contacted by a reporter to comment about the story.

Sources close to the couple told U.S. entertainment website TMZ.com that the marriage has been on the rocks since June and that the divorce filing was not a surprise to the Hogans or people who know the couple.

Hogan married Linda in 1983.

They are parents to 19-year-old daughter Brooke Hogan and 17-year-old Nick Hogan.

The possibility that the couple would part ways was once the subject of an episode of their VH1 reality show. But in that episode the couple ultimately reconciled.

Reports have suggested that the marriage fell apart after a stressful year that included their son's involvement in a car wreck that left a close family friend in a coma.

The family have been preparing to help son Nick defend himself against a reckless driving charge stemming from the August car crash that left his passenger with brain injuries expected to leave him in a nursing home the rest of his life.
