Russell BrandRussell Brand used to spend his nan's pension on drugs he has revealed.

The TV star said his family had an inkling he was on drugs but he never had to steal from them because they gave him cash.

He said: "What can you do when someone's a drug addict, a bloody nuisance it must be putting up with it, tolerating it, the smell.

"I didn't need to (steal from my mum) because she'd go "all right darling have it". My dear old nan used to give me her pension, people were very kind.

He joked: "It was ridiculous collecting that pension because a lot of the other people were much older."

Brand also spoke of the terrible effects of heroin withdrawal. He said: "It's horrible. Heroin grants you a life of waking sleep as if every moment is a dream and then when you stop taking heroin and when you need sleep most, sleep will not visit you. You're awake, more awake than you've ever been before. You can't sneak off into a little bit of sleep, the comfort of sleep and your legs ache constantly.

"It's really, really horrible."

Now that he's clean, Brand said he was hoping to stay that way.

He admitted: "I'm trying to find spiritual enlightenment in order that we might have a spiritual revolution so at the moment I'm all right. "I do miss drugs and sex a bit but i think a spiritual utopia, it should be better. "I'm spiritual, I think I want to discover love in all people."

Brand also revealed on chat show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that he had a crush on fellow guest 007 actor Daniel Craig.

He said his heterosexuality had been challenged by sitting next to Craig, admitting: "If I knew that death was upon me I wouldn't spend my last hours on earth writing my autobiography. I'd be out there doing opium and trying to chat up Daniel Craig."

He later joked: "It's not that I'd like to have sex with Daniel Craig, I'd just like to sit on his lap."
