Kanye West 'was against mother's surgery'
Kanye West did not want his mother to undergo the cosmetic surgery that could have played a part in her death, it has been claimed.
Donda West's hairdresser, Charlay Thomas, says the rap star was against his Mum having an op by Dr Jan Adams. "I think that Kanye was aware [of the surgery], but again like none of us, he did not know who this man is, who he was," the stylist told a US TV show.
Donda West, 58, called Ms. Thomas the day before she was due to visit Dr Adams for a tummy tuck and breast reduction.
In a voicemail message played to entertainment show Inside Edition, Donda said she wanted to have her hair done before going under the knife.
"I hope you get this message soon because it's possible I need something from you, like, immediately," the voicemail said. "I am going to, um, go have my procedure done tomorrow and I'm getting every single thing from my neck to my knees. "So, anyway, call me. I'll tell you about that. I just decided at the last minute that it would be nice if my hair were corn-rowed [before the surgery]."
But the hairdresser did not get the message until the following day - when Donda was already on Dr Adams' operating table. "If I had only picked up the phone," she said.
The stylist said Donda had been considering having cosmetic surgery since June, but revealed to her that Kanye wasn't keen on the idea. "She [Donda] said that Kanye did not want her to get it done," she explained.
Donda died on November 10 - just 24 hours after Dr Adams, based in Beverly Hills, California, had operated on her. The former Chicago State University chairwoman was rushed to the emergency room at the Centinela Freeman Hospital in Marina del Rey after paramedics responded to a 911 call from her home.
Doctors tried to revive her, But Donda died later that night. Dr Adams has denied being to blame for her death.
He told celebrity news website TMZ that the tragedy was unforeseen and could have been caused by a heart attack, a pulmonary embolism or massive vomiting. The doctor initially came under fire after another surgeon claimed he had refused to carry out Donda's surgery due to a medical condition she had.
Dr. Andre Aboolian, also based in Beverly Hills, claims he was set to perform a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Kanye's Mum, but told her she needed to get clearance from an internist first.
But Dr Adams says Donda consulted with him for four months, and kept changing her mind - before eventually going ahead with the procedure. "He [Dr Aboolian] is sleazy and manipulating the truth to elevate his own importance," Dr Adams blasted.
The Los Angeles County Coroner has confirmed that they are investigating the death.
Possible cosmetic surgery complications is one of the lines they are looking into.
An autopsy was performed on November 13 and reportedly concluded that Donda died "as a result of surgery or anesthesia".
