Ike Turner dies aged 76

Tina Turner's former husband Ike Turner has died aged 76.

Ike, whose status as a music legend was overshadowed by his brutal abuse of Tina, reportedly died in his sleep at his California home.

He had seven top ten hits with Tina before the couple's stormy marriage ended in divorce in 1978.

The pair were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.

But Ike was notorious for abusing Tina and was portrayed as a drug addict wife-beater in 'What's Love Got To Do With It', the movie based on her autobiography.

Ike was married four times and lived in San Marcos, California, just outside of San Diego.

He did manage to revive his music career in his later years and won a Grammy in 2007 in the traditional blues album category for 'Risin' With The Blues'.
