Britney Spears spoke in a British accent in hospital

January 9 2008

Britney SpearsTroubled singer Britney Spears - who was rushed to Cedars-Sinai hospital last week, apparently spoke in a British accent during her stay.

While TV psychologist Phil McGraw wouldn't comment on the state of Britney after his controversial visit last Friday, he did say that the Toxic singer needs to be in treatment. "She needs to be in in-patient care for a period of time," he said. "Is she having a rough time right now? Yes, she is. Why? I'm not really going to go into that at this point. But I can tell you this is a good person and I truly believe she'll get back to being a good person."

It isn’t the first time she changed her voice. On December 17, she spoke in the same [British] accent while chatting with the paparazzi outside the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

NYC-based psychotherapist Dr. Robi explained why the singer may be changing her voice: “She’s having identity issues, he told Us Weekly.

“What it definitely says is she doesn’t really like being where she’s at — there’s probably a part of her that wants to escape who she is really is,” Ludwig says, adding that Spears is “in an adolescent mode of thinking ... [she’s] trying on different personas to see what feels good and works for her."
