Jamie Oliver appears on American Iron Chef

January 8 2008

Jamie OliverJamie Oliver served up the best of British as he faced off against Mario Batali on a U.S. cookery competition.

The Naked Chef cooked up a posh portion of fish and chips - and presented it on a copy of The Sun - as he appeared on American Iron Chef.

In the episode Oliver and Batali had to cook up dishes using the ingredient cobia - an expensive fish prized for its taste.

While Batali opted for a raw carpaccio and a pasta dish, Oliver decided on more traditional fayre with a fish broth and battered fish and chips.

Oliver said: "As I've come all this way I thought I had best show you a pretty version of fish and chips.
"We've got mushy peas and chunky chips."

Although Oliver lost the competition by three points his choice of fish and chips won praise from the show's judges.

Executive chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli said: "The batter locked in a lot of juiciness and when you put the hot food on the newspaper I smell the paper and I like that. I admit it - I dig your newspaper scent!"
