Lionel Richie 'extremely proud' of Nicole

Soul legend Lionel Richie says he's still getting used to his new status as a grandfather - but he's very proud nonetheless.

"While it may take me a moment to adjust to being called grand dad, I am extremely happy and proud of Nicole and Joel," Richie says, referring to the birth of his granddaughter.

"Harlow Winter Kate Madden, the newest and most beautiful addition to the Richie clan, is a lucky little girl," he added. "She was surrounded by a great deal of love at that hospital as she entered the world. Nicole and Joel are going to be wonderful parents."

Socialite Nicole, 26, and her fiancée, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, 28, welcomed their daughter on Friday evening at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center - she weighed 6 lbs., 7 oz.

The 'Girls and Boys' star posted a message on his website on Monday, saying that their daughter "looks so much like her mom its crazy," and expressing appreciation for all the well wishes and support from fans they have received.
