Scarlett Johansson "on the verge" of getting engaged to Ryan Reynolds

Scarlett Johansson is on the verge of getting engaged to boyfriend Ryan Reynolds, according to U.S reports.

The 'Lost in Translation' actress has been dating Reynolds for eight-months, after he broke off his engagement to singer Alanis Morissette last February.

Now the comedy actor may be ready to pop the question again, the New York Daily News reports.

"Her rep is denying it, but a very good source tells me we can soon expect an engagement announcement from actors Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. Mazel tov, kids!" Ben Widdicombe writes in the Gatecrasher column.

The couple were first spotted together in April, taking in a movie at a cinema in New York's Tribeca neighbourhood.
Scarlet has previously dated Hollywood star Josh Hartnett.
