Kiefer Sutherland released from jail
Actor Kiefer Sutherland was released from jail on Monday after serving 48 days behind bars at a Glendale, Calif. jail.
The 41-year-old '24' star left at 12:05 a.m., according to jail spokesman John Balian.
"[Kiefer] looked like he was glad to be out," said Balian, who added that the actor was wearing a shirt and jeans when he left, and collected whatever personal belongings he originally brought with him.
The actor - who plays Jack Bauer in the hit Fox drama, served his entire sentence for a second DUI conviction and for violating probation.
He was praised as a model prisoner by the prison's staff.
"He's not happy to be here," Officer John Balian said last month. "But you can tell from his demeanor that he's sorry and takes responsibility for what's he's done."
"Throughout his stay, he never griped, never complained.
"He never wanted preferential treatment from the get go, and we respect him for that."
Kiefer - who had to spend his birthday, Christmas and New Year's behind bars, was housed alone in an 8 by 10 foot cell, but was not confined to it, having access to a larger day room with a TV.
He was only visited by his attorney. He did not include any family or friends on his visitor request list.
Sutherland kept largely to himself, having scant contact with other inmates, Balian said.
He was, however, swamped with fan mail, according to previous reports.
"The guy's been getting a ton of fan mail," John Balian said last month. "Easily more than 100 letters a day."
