Nicole Richie used a mirror to watch the birth of her daughter
Socialite Nicole Richie used a mirror to watch the birth of her daughter, it has been revealed.
The 26-year-old 'Simple Life' star - who gave birth to her first child, daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden naturally two weeks ago, was keen to get a clear view of the moment her little girl entered the world at Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
A source told America's Star magazine: "A nurse handed Nicole a mirror so she could see the birth. At first she was too afraid, but she watched during the final few pushes."
However, there were worrying moments for Nicole and her fiancé, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden - when Harlow turned a scary shade of blue.
But the doctor was quick to reassure the new parents that everything was OK and placed Harlow on Nicole's chest while Joel nervously cut the umbilical cord.
Following the birth, Nicole - who had had an epidural injection to help her with the immense pain - then sent a note to singer Christina Aguilera, who was in a nearby ward awaiting the arrival of her son.
Nicole wanted to wish Christina luck with the delivery and let her know she was in her thoughts.
The source added: "It was sweet!"
Christina had her little boy, Max, by Caesarean section on January 12, the day after Harlow's arrival.
