Simon Cowell urged to put his money where his mouth is

January 23 2008

Simon CowellSimon Cowell recently revealed his plans to leave $180m to charity in his will - but some fans are urging the multi-millionaire music mogul to act now.

Website Bragster.com is "daring" 48-year-old Simon "to do something for charity while he is still alive"

The American Idol & X Factor judge - who's worth an estimated $200m, revealed that he was forced to think about his legacy while on holiday with his mother in Barbados in December.

He said: "My mother asked, 'Have you ever made a will? I said, 'Thanks a lot!' But it got me thinking."

The website asks of Simon: "If you do accept our dare and go for it within the next 30 days, we'll contribute $1,000 of our own little money to that charity, We are probably not taking much risk, but we'd love you to prove us wrong."

Cowell is a keen philanthropist - he recently donated $20,000 to set up The Hope Animal Rescue Sanctuary in Barbados. But why wait until you're dead to carry on giving?

Bertrand Bodson, who came up with the dare, told ShowbizSpy.com: "I created that dare because I found it a very lousy charity pledge from Simon Cowell, to be honest. Why couldn’t he do something for charity right NOW while he can truly be helpful (better alive than dead). I know he helps here and there already, but is that enough?

"Anyway, I couldn’t think of a better way than this dare on Bragster.com to make my point, and put some social pressure on him. I’m sure the odds are against me, but if we could all spread the word until it gets to his ears. Maybe he might go for Mr Nice – alive!"

Never heard of Bragster.com? according to Britain's Guardian newspaper, it's "Jackass meets Facebook."

Bodson added: "I picked on Simon Cowell since actually, I’m kind of a fan. Up to the point that other Bragsters actually dared me a few days ago to apply for the X Factor 2008. Actually, we are even looking to create a Bragster Boys Band. If anyone is interested"

So go on, Simon - put that green where we can see it, and rise to the challenge!
