Supermodel Helena Christensen was on her way to visit Heath Ledger when she found out the Aussie star had died.

The Danish stunner and the Brokeback Mountain star reportedly dated in September 2007, following his split from Michelle Williams.

Christensen, 39, tells Pagesix.com that she had just left Ledger a phone message and was heading for his SoHo apartment, when she heard news of his death.

"I am just beyond sad at this point and shocked," she told Pagesix.

"I was on my way over to pay him a visit when I found out.

"I had just left him a message and heard his voice on the machine. He was such a special and genuine person, so extraordinarily talented because he was so raw and honest with his feelings.

"He was so full of life, so electric. This is immensely sad."
