Tom Cruise biography hits Number one on NY Times' bestseller list

January 24 2008

Tom Cruise BiographyAndrew Morton's controversial biography of Tom Cruise has topped the New York Times Best Sellers List just one week after hitting US bookstores.

Tom Cruise: The Unauthorized Biography sent fans of the actor into a buying frenzy - especially Brits on holiday in the US.

The book is not for sale in the UK and Ireland so British tourists vacationing in America are reportedly buying copies to take home.

The New York Post recently claimed that tourists are helping the $23.95 [£11.97] book to fly off the shelves of Manhattan bookstores.

Readers back home can't get hold of it because of stringent UK libel laws.

And the litigious star has threatened to file a $100 million lawsuit again Morton and publisher St Martin's Press because of the allegations he says are not true.

Cruise's lawyer, Bertram Fields, released a statement saying that it is "absolutely loaded with false statements."

The biography includes allegations that Cruise is the number two person in the Church of Scientology.

Defending their position, St Martin's Press said in a statement: "It is unfortunate that lawyers for both Mr Cruise and Scientology have felt the need to threaten us with legal action at every step of the way.

"While the book has been variously accused of being too scandalous and not scandalous enough, we believe that those who take the time to read it will find a consistently fair - and consistently fascinating - portrait of the real Tom Cruise."

Those British tourists tempted to sell the book when they get home are warned in bold capital letters at the bottom of the back cover that it is "NOT FOR SALE IN THE UK AND IRELAND."

I guess it pushed aside

I guess it pushed aside "Dianetics" as being #1 on the best seller list.

it is the opportune time to

it is the opportune time to hear the other side of the "cruise-power" we have had pushed down our throats for too long, let's just read, enjoy and think for a minute, "if we believe there are some form of beings on other planets, why not another side to the "cruse-power?" the "cruise" has made some pretty "odd-ball" comments to make one want to stop and think, "is there more to this self-absorbed egomaniac? and i am not a cruise-hater ! just an observer of what is delivered-presented to us all.

That book is an interesting

That book is an interesting reading.
I can confirm a lot of the info about Cruise's cult.

A must read! If only to see

A must read!

If only to see how the dim of mind (Cruise, Katie, Travolta) are sucked into a ridiculous cult!

So lame. If that's all it

So lame. If that's all it takes to make a best seller, maybe I should write an unauthorized biography of the sleaze bag.

Sure, I don't know anything about the guy, but who cares? Clearly that's no requirement to write a biography these days.

Cruise and Scientology will

Cruise and Scientology will only attack and never accept any of the verifiable facts in the book. This is normal 'Fair Game' practice as written down by Hubbard. The niece of Miscavige, once a Scientologist herself, wrote a very strong letter condemning the lies they indulged in as they damned the book.

We should take the chance to compare the facts in the book to independant and verifiable/documented evidence from elsewhere. Have a look too at LRon Hubbards navy records and compare them to his story as a war-hero. Examine the story of Xenu on the Operation Clambake website. Why does Scientology not allow the independant and scientific examination of their 'technology' which claims to cure all ills? Why is their way to save the planet so expensive? Why did Hubbards son Quentin kill himself, and why did L Ron Hubbard Junior condemn his father so completely?

Are the main characters in Scientology to be believed when they hide so much? Why are they so violent towards critics and ex-members? Where is the calm of the heart and mind if to know the truth is a joy?
