Craig FergusonBrit comic Craig Ferguson will become an American citizen after getting a perfect score on his citizenship test.

The Scot has become a household name in the States as a chat show host presenting 'The Late Late Show', will be officially sworn in as an American in a few weeks.

Proud Ferguson, 45, revealed he aced the test on his show on Monday night.

To pass the test he had to answer tough questions like, "What month is the new president inaugurated?" and "Who is the chief justice of the Supreme Court?"

He joked: "All of you people born here, if you had to take that test - well Canada would be building a fence right now."

Glasgow-born Ferguson was made an honorary citizen of Ozark, Arkansas, after telling how he was a big fan of its catfish.

He then launched a campaign to get the same recognition elsewhere and is reportedly an honorary citizen of 16,109 US communities.

Ferguson also weighed into the American political debate on Monday night's show.

He joked President Bush's final State of the Union address was like a "farewell, special edition of 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?'
