Justin Chambers checked himself into hospital

Grey's Anatomy star Justin Chambers checked himself into hospital - the same psych ward that Britney Spears has been admitted to.

Chambers, who plays Dr Alex Karev on the hit drama, entered the unit at UCLA Hospital in Westwood, Los Angeles on Monday.

A rep for the star confirmed that the married father of five was 'exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder'.

The rep added: "Justin Chambers went into the ward voluntarily for help."

He was in the same ward as Britney is now - but checked out on Wednesday - just hours before Britney was admitted.

Britney was taken to the hospital in the early hours on Thursday morning in an ambulance flanked by 16 police motorcyclists.

She voluntarily entered the psych ward after her psychiatrist managed to get a 5150 order signed.

The psychiatrist sought the order because Britney had reportedly not slept since Saturday.

A 5150 order states that a person can be held for up to 72 hours to be evaluated if they are deemed a danger to themselves.

Britney arrived at the hospital with her mother Lynn, on-off British boyfriend Adnan Ghalib and her 'manager' Sam Lutfi.

She is expected to be evaluated over the next couple of days and there is a possibly she may be kept in the hospital for a further 14 days if her psychiatrist thinks she needs more time for bipolar medication to start working.
