Gwyneth Paltrow considering adopting a baby from Brooklyn

February 11 2008

Gwyneth Paltrow has again said she is considering adopting a child with husband Chris Martin.

The Shakespeare in Love actress said she is open to the idea - but she said that rather than take in a child from a developing nation, she'd rather adopt closer to her home in New York. "We might get one from Brooklyn," she said.

"No baby is more helpless than another baby.

"And I'm a New York girl."

At a benefit last week - hosted by pal Madonna to raise awareness of troubles in Malawi, she said: "People who have a lot also often feel like they have a lot to give. I have a good friend who always says that if you're a person of means at all, then you have to adopt because there are so many kids in the world who need homes."

Madonna adopted a toddler, David Banda, from Malawi in October 2006. Paltrow, 35, has previously told how Coldplay rocker Martin, 30, is keen on the idea.

She told W magazine: "My husband wants to adopt. So I don't know. I'm sort of open for anything."

The celebrity couple already has two children - three-year-old daughter Apple and 22-months-old son, Moses. But she wouldn't reveal what saw her rushed into a New York hospital last month.

She told a US newspaper: "I feel great.

"People made a big deal out of nothing."

Celebrity chef pal Mario Batali blamed the trip on stomach problems - while others speculated Paltrow was pregnant.
