Kanye West fumed at the Grammy Awards when producers tried to cut short his acceptance speech dedicating the rapper's win to his dead mother.
Producers of the show played music to try to hurry him off stage as he accepted the Best Rap Album of the Year gong for his hit-album 'Graduation'.
Not even Kanye's white sunglasses could hide his disgust as he fumed: "Come on? You're going to play music on me?"
"Just to say something about my mother. I appreciate all the support and all the prayers . . . . It would be in good spirit to stop the music."
When the background music stopped the crowd cheered as Kanye paid an emotional tribute to mother Donda West, who died late last year following complications after plastic surgery.
Kanye went on: "I know you are really proud of me right now and I know you wouldn't want me to stop. You want me to be the number one artist in the world and mama, all I'm going to do is keep making you proud. We run this."
Earlier in the televised show, West performed 'Stronger' wearing a jacket with flashing LED lights and was joined on stage by French techno group Daft Punk.
It was the long-running duo's first-ever TV performance in a career that has lasted almost 15 years.
Kanye's voice than cracked with emotion as he performed the song 'Hey Mamma' from his earlier album 'Late Registration.'
Kanye landed a pair of victories before the televised ceremony started, grabbing Best Rap Solo Performance for the hit single "Stronger" and Best Rap Song for "Good Life.

Ha, it's funny all you guys have some ridiculous comments about how Kanye was trying to "exploit for personal gain" over his speech.
I'm sure if he didn't saying anything majority of you would comment saying "It was pretty rude kanye west didn't have anything to say to his audience/fans about his loss".. so keep your negative feedback and comments to yourself.
As a matter of fact it just defines the type of sensitivity he has on the subject also the love that he has for his mother, to speak up in a very polite manner on the rude situation of playing music in announcing his goodbyes and sharing it with others. It takes a lot of courage. Kanye west is a man who works hard, it's true his confident.. whatever anyone says you can't force any fictional fact of him being arrogant because it's obviously complete bogus.

I bet hundreds of great moms die every day. I am sure Kanye feels sad about his mother's death and so do all his fans, but to use the Grammy to pay a tribute sounds like exploitation of the event for personal gain. I can understand if his mom was Mother Teresa or someone who had dedicated her life to the poor, but she was simply a mom and manager of a celebrity.

I think it is rediculous that they even played music for ANY of the stars. Most award shows now dont even consider music anymore they just let them talk as long as they want...weather he was exploiting his mother or not, he has the right to say what ever he wants and thank whomever he chooses (dead or alive) he won the award, let him have his moment. I think that it was nice
I think that it was nice that he wanted to pay tribute to his late mother. So he should not have wasted on that time with all the other nonsense he was saying. The music was on long before he started to talk about his mother. And I think it was very, very nice that they stopped it when he did start to talk about it.
