Elton John "livid" over Madonna's decision to throw an Oscars party

Elton John was "livid" over Madonna's decision to throw a list-minute Oscars party, it has been claimed.

Attended by many Oscar winners and nominees, the bash was THE party to be at after Vanity Fair's annual soirée got canceled.

Celebrities attending Elton's party, included an array of "B and C-listers", including Best Actress winner Marion Cotillard, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Sharon Stone, Kate Beckinsale, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Seal.

Madonna's lavish bash, however, was an "A-list" affair, with Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, Cameron Diaz, Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher, Drew Barrymore, Owen Wilson and Penelope Cruz all in attendance at the singer's party - which was thrown together in a matter of days.

"Elton despises Madonna and this has made things way worse," a source tells PerezHilton.com.

Elton's party raised a record $5.1 million for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs. It was co-hosted by John and his partner, Canadian filmmaker David Furnish, and was held at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood and co-sponsored by the Swiss jewelers Chopard and TV channel VH1.
