Tori Spelling almost went bankrupt due to "bad shopping habits"
Actress Tori Spelling has confessed she nearly went bankrupt due to "bad shopping habits".
The former Beverly Hills 90210 star revealed she racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt on her credit cards.
She blames her excessive spending spree on her affluent childhood - when she never had to worry about cash.
Spelling, 34, grew up in a huge Beverly Hills mansion owned by billionaire father Aaron Spelling. Her personal life has always seemed scripted for the small screen.
Her million-dollar 2005 wedding to Charlie Shanian was featured on the covers of glossy magazines, and her marriage-ending affair was exposed in tabloids around the world. But the actress, now married to Dean McDermott, recently embraced new roles as a mother and a reality television star.
And in her new autobiography, 'sTori Telling', she confesses she suffered serious financial troubles when her debts got out of hand.
"I was in severe debt on my credit cards - hundreds of thousands of dollars," she told US TV show 20/20. "Bad shopping habits die hard," she writes in her book.
Tori confessed to 20/20 that she never had to worry about money when she was growing up.
"I know that might sounds shallow to people, but that was my reality," she said. "I would sit and watch my Mom order stuff online, or in a catalogue see a sweater and order it in 10 different colours.
"I thought 'I have my own money - that's what I should do'."
Too proud to ask her father for help, Tori decided to go back to work to resolve her money problems.
She took any TV job that would pay her bills, launched her own jewellery line and began her reality show 'Tori and Dean: Inn Love'.
She also inherited money from her Dad, who died in 2006, but despite the enormity of the Spelling estate, got less than $1 million.

Sounds shallow? Duh. She's so shallow and selfish. Her mother is speaking out on mySpace. Seems only right.
