Britney Spears meets with Mel Gibson 'regularly'

Britney Spears and Mel Gibson hold regular meetings with each other, sources claim.

The Toxic star and the Braveheart actor enjoyed a spot of dinner at the Romanov Russian Restaurant & Lounge in Studio City, California Sunday - but it wasn't their first meeting.

The pair and their families have reportedly met several times since the troubled singer checked out from her second hospitalization at the UCLA Medical Center last month, a source said.

"Mel and his wife Robin clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible," the source tells People.com.

"There's just a handful of people in the world who understand the kind of intense attention that Britney goes through, and how to raise a family with some semblance of privacy and how to keep one's family intact and out of the limelight," the source adds.

"There are no expectations, there is no agenda. It's simply an act of human kindness – one neighbor reaching out to the other."

Britney's dad, Jamie Spears is a client of the lawyer who helped the actor avoid a legal wrap for his DUI arrest in 2006. And Gibson, 52, and Spears, 26, used to be neighbors in Malibu, California.
