Britney SpearsA wannabe model insisted yesterday that she was dating Adnan Ghalib at the same time as he was seeing Britney Spears.

Beautiful Amanda Pagel says photographer Adnan, 35, swept her off her feet when she was "vulnerable" following a break-up.

And she insisted: "He promised me a million times he and Britney were just friends. He promised me they weren't having sex."

Amanda - who was just 20 at the time, 15 years Adnan's junior - insisted she was convinced she was involved in a regular relationship with Adnan.

And she says in an interview with a U.S. magazine that she "wanted to believe him" every time he reassured her that nothing was going on with Britney.

She says she finally realized the truth when she saw stories about how Britney went wild at finding texts from another woman on Adnan's phone. "I felt sick," Amanda said. "I knew the texts were ones we'd sent to each other.

"I realized there were three of us in this relationship - and I would never be a priority.

"I was heartbroken."

She added: "That's why I'm speaking out now.

"I know he'll be mad when he reads this, but I want people to know I didn't try to steal anyone's boyfriend."

Amanda insists Adnan still texts her, with a recent one reading: 'I miss you... Ur face ur smile the taste of ur lips and most of all I miss ur heart !!!!!!!'

She says the last time she spoke to Adnan he called to wish her a happy 21st birthday. "He was edgy when we spoke," she recalled. "I wouldn't be surprised if he was with Britney when he snuck off and called me."

Amanda insists she has "Britney's best interest at heart" by speaking out, adding: "I am taking care of her.

"I'd tell her we've both suffered. He promised me a million times he and Britney were just friends.

"If he's been honest with me, I'd never have gone near him.

"I'm not the sort of girl who dates other women's boyfriends.

"Most of all, I'd tell Britney to be careful who she trusts.

"I just hope she doesn't get hurt like I did."

Amanda says she had just moved to L.A. when she met Anan at a party in January. "I didn't want a relationship - I'd just split up with my boyfriend - but I was lonely and wanted to make new friends," she said. "A few days later, I texted him to say how nice it was to meet him. He responded immediately, asking if he could come to my house and see me.

"We saw each other pretty much every day."

She says she had a wonderful time with him and felt special. "He's really gentle and sweet with a great sense of humour," she says. "We'd sit and talk until 4 a.m. about family, friends, life - everything.

"I felt like I'd known him all my life.

"He's a fantastic kisser, too.

"He used to compliment me and tell me how sexy I was.

"I fell for him because I was feeling vulnerable after my breakup, like Britney, and he made me feel amazing about myself.

"He used to call me 'Bebe' but I found out recently that's his pet name for Britney, too, which hurts."

She insists that Britney often came up in conversations - but she was assured she had nothing to worry about. "The first time he came over to my house, I asked about Britney. He swore they were just good friends.

"He promised they weren't having sex and he kept reminding me what a hard time Britney had been through.

"'We're close and I'm supporting her through difficult times,' he told me.

"We never went out in public - I thought he was protecting Britney's feelings. "He kept saying, 'As soon as she's back on her own feet, we can go public'."

She added: "I suspected he might be lying, but I wanted to believe him."
