Britney Spears to perform a gig at Mel Gibson's church?
Britney Spears is set to perform a gospel gig at Mel Gibson's catholic church in California, it has been claimed.
The 'Braveheart' star, 52, wants troubled Britney to see the light and "rediscover God".
Britney, 26, has agreed with Mel on an "appropriate" set of songs. Insiders say she is rehearsing a gospel-style number that she will perform with backing singers at the gig next month.
A source said: "They are working on arrangements and will agree on something in time for Britney singing at a Sunday service in late April.
"There is the possibility that she may even have a new song written for her for the occasion."
Mel has known Britney since they became neighbors in Malibu. He has met her on three separate occasions during the last month and has been helping to nurture her spiritual side.
The source adds to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "He is acting as a kind of mentor to help her rediscover God.
"He is thrilled that she has agreed to come to his church."
But if the Toxic singer is planning to turn up to Mel's ultra-conservative church in one of her flesh revealing outfits -- she can think again: Female followers must wear veils over their hair and long skirts.
Adds the source: "Visitors have to be really respectful and cover up. So Britney can't turn up in her usual leather trousers or short skirts -- she'd be turned away.
"Even if she is performing she will need to abide by the rules."
Mel's church, which holds a daily mass in Latin, follows an ancient ideology of Catholicism. But it is not recognized by the Roman Catholic Church because it does not acknowledge the authority of the Pope or the Vatican.
The parish -- which is still unfinished after three years of construction and sits on the actor's $4m estate in Malibu -- has a chapel which seats 100.
