David Beckham 'to buy a football club' when his contract runs out
David Beckham has the option to purchase a Major League Soccer franchise in 2011, he has been revealed.
The 32-year-old soccer star also admitted that his first year with US soccer team LA Galaxy was 'a nightmare' but denied his move to America was a form of semi-retirement.
"I'm passionate about this move and I'm passionate about the fact the sport can grow here," he said.
Beckham -- who's married to singer-turned fashion designer Victoria 'Posh Spice' Beckham -- also said that his injury-laden first season, which saw him play just five games, was a disaster.
Since David signed his lucrative, $250m contract with LA Galaxy, he has also taken on a number of money-spinning sponsorship deals -- but insisted that his other commercial interests never interfered with his performance on the pitch.
He told CBS show 60 Minutes: "They're always second to my football."
Father of three Beckham also revealed a new tattoo of Victoria and said body art was his way of expressing his feelings.
The footballer, who could get his 100th England cap tomorrow, was asked about negative press coverage.
"You have so much criticism thrown at you, you either go one way or the other. You either just sit in the corner and cry or you come out fighting," he said.
"And I've always been able to come out fighting."
