Jay-Z on the verge of quitting Glastonbury
Jay-Z is on the verge of pulling out of Glastonbury.
The rapper -- who's set to headline the music festival later this year -- is upset that organizers used his planned appearance to hype the event’s appeal to a younger and more "urban" crowd, and is angered by suggestions his signing caused fewer ticket registrations than last year.
It is believed that the Jay-Z -- real name Shawn Corey Carter -- will play the 02 Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park on Thursday, July 3, instead.
A source said: "He hasn’t liked all this talk of how Glastonbury is more urban and hip this year because of his appearance.
"He feels it’s a bit sad and he’s being used to make a point.
"The straw that broke the camel’s back was when he was blamed for the lower registrations."
In attempt to keep the "99 Problems" rapper happy, the festival's organizer, Michael Eavis, was due to personally introduce him to the crowd before his headline slot on the Pyramid Stage. But the special treatment further irritated the star who felt he was being singled out.
Eavis yesterday denied Jay-Z had pulled out, insisting: "I spoke to his people this weekend. Everything is fine. I'm excited."
The festival will be held on 27th, 28th and 29th June. Kings of Leon and The Verve are also lined-up as headline acts.
