Jennifer Lopez wants to Tom Cruise to be godfather to her newborn twins.
The 'Jenny From The Block' singer -- who gave birth to son Max and daughter Emme on February 22 -- has convinced husband Marc Anthony to give Tom the role despite their differences in religious beliefs. Tom, a devout follower of the mysterious religion of Scientology; Lopez and Anthony Catholic.
A source said: "Tom is delighted. Marc wasn't sure if it was a good idea to have a Scientologist as the kids' godfather, especially as he and Jennifer are both Catholic. But in the end Jennifer managed to convince him to agree."
Tom -- who has a 2-year-old daughter, Suri, with wife Katie Holmes -- has already showered the twins with gifts.
The actor reportedly spent around $200,000 on designer christening outfits for Max and Emme, ordered a giant fish tank for their nursery and gave them complete Disney DVD box sets.
It has also been claimed Tom and Katie planned to host a star-studded $200,000 'Welcome to the World' themed-party for the fraternal twins.

If Mark and JLo are going to
If Mark and JLo are going to have their babies baptized in the Catholic Church, the primary godparents must be Catholics as well and the names of the primary godparents will be added to the baptismal certificate. Plus all Catholic godparents must attend as seminar at Church before the baptism or they're not considered the primary godparents.
So in this case, either:
a) Tom is not one of the primary godparents, just a secondary godparent,
b) The twins are not going to be baptized in a Catholic Church (Dcientology maybe?), or
c) Tom has converted back to the Roman Catholic faith - nothing is impossible, but at this time, kinda improbable :-)

There is no way that Tom Cruise can be a godfather if these children are to be baptized in the Catholic faith. Church law states that a godparent must be someone who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and must be a practicing Catholic. While former Catholic Tom Cruise may have been confirmed, he is definitely not a practicing Catholic. Christians of other denominations may be sponsors or Christian witnesses, but since his "religion" says there is no Christ, he cannot even be that.
If Jennifer and Marc actually practiced their Catholic faith, they would know these rules.

Good for Jennifer! Tom Cruise is a good man and because he's a Scientologist, her kids would be in GREAT hands!
(And by the way, the author of that article doesn't know what he's talking about. Scientology is not a "mysterious" religion.)

Cannot happen, Godfather must be a Catholic in good standing, Cruise denied his Catholic faith when he embraced the Scientology cult. Godparent should reflect model of Catholic faith (at least beleive in Christ as the Son of God and not aliens!) Shame on the priest who allows this to happen! Actually the religion of the
Actually the religion of the god-parent is not that big of a deal. I know many Catholics who have Protestant god-parents. My god-parents are Catholic, yet they are non-practicing. And considering Tom Cruise is a former Catholic..it's not that big of a deal.

As a Catholic Deacon, only one God Parent has to be Catholic in order for the Baptism to be valid. Maybe the twins will convert Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes back to their original faith of Catholic.
