Eminem to perform at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday

April 11 2008

EminemRap bad boy Eminem is set to share the stage with Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday bash this summer, it has been confirmed.

Eminem -- real name Marshall Mathers -- was tempted out of retirement by the gig's organizer, Queen rocker Brian May, to perform at the former South African president’s June 27 concert in London’s Hyde Park.

A source said: "We're amazed to have Eminem on board.

"We wanted some of the greatest artists from recent times and Eminem was on the list.

"Brian contacted Eminem’s management on the off-chance and never expected him to go for it.

"It’s going to be explosive stuff and it’s certainly a big stage to make his comeback."

The 'Slim Shady' star's set list is yet to be discussed -- but it's unlikely he'll be singing anything controversial.

Adds the source: "I know Eminem’s lyrics are always at the center of controversy but people forget he did actually sing with Elton John at the Grammys.

"He also publicly apologized for the offense caused by racist lyrics."

Eminen, 35, joins a bill which includes Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox and British bands Keane and Razorlight.
