Tom Cruise blasts marriage split rumors

Tom Cruise has denied fresh rumors his marriage to Katie Holmes is on the rocks.

The couple -- who have a daughter, Suri, together -- put on a show of unity just a day after claims circulated that Holmes was on the verge of leaving the "controlling" Top Gun star.

Star magazine claimed that the Katie was being "crushed'" by the marriage; and she was planning to escape to New York with Suri.

The publication quoted a source as saying: "She desperately needs to be on her own for a while, but there's no way Tom is going to let her take Suri away. He doesn't want Katie or Suri out of his sight for long. He told her that if she goes to New York, he goes with her."

The source also claimed that former Dawson's Creek star Katie, 29, wanted a trial separation "to break away from her controlled life under the watchful eyes of her husband", adding: "Tom wants to call all the shots when it comes to Suri. He has a lot of rules, and there's conflict."

A spokesman for Cruise, 45, claimed the allegations were unfounded, saying: "They are happily together. This is completely false and irresponsible reporting."

Cruise was vilified in 2006 for reportedly demanding that Holmes give birth to Suri in silence in accordance with the doctrine of the Church of Scientology, of which he is a high-profile member.
