Jamie Lee Curtis "knows" how Miley Cyrus feels
Former child star Jamie Lee Curtis says, to a extent, she can relate to Miley Cyrus.
"When these young people get all dressed up for award show red-carpet events don't we all comment how beautiful, stunning and grown-up they look in their strapless/backless dresses and heels and tousled hair? None of this is new," Curtis, 49, who stripped for AARP magazine, writes on The Huffington Post.
"None of this should be news. But it is news because it is a business. It is all Business. It is called Show Business. Show Abyss-ness! I call it Show-OFF Business. You throw a child into the jaws of a business and they will get eaten.
"I know how Miley feels. I too was a little embarrassed by my recent topless "scandal" and the subsequent parodies, but I am an adult woman. I protected myself during the shoot and I can take the heat. I only wish that her guardians had protected her," said Curtis, whose photo shoot in ARP was parodied on Saturday Night Live.
Following the controversy of the Vanity Fair photos, in which the the 15-year-old Hannah Montana star appears to be nude, Miley issued a statement apologizing for the racy shots. "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy," she said.
"For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie [Leibovitz].
"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."
The singer-actress' parents, including her father, Billy Ray, were present at the shoot -- but left Before the final photo was shot. However, Cyrus' grandmother and teacher were still present at that time.
Leibovitz defends the photos as "simple" and "beautiful," and says she's "sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted."
Freaky Friday actress Curtis, says she empathizes with Miley.
"Of course she is embarrassed. She is a young girl. She shouldn't have to deal with any of this," writes Curtis. "I don't feel that she was duped. I know the integrity of Ms. Leibovitz and the magazine and I know there were people present at the shoot that should have been looking out to make sure that this didn't happen."
