Tom Cruise takes up running

Tom Cruise is determined to follow in wife Katie Holmes' footsteps -- and has taken up running.

The 'Top Gun' star, 45, caught the running bug when Katie, 29, did the New York Marathon last year.

A source said: "When he saw her running that race, something kicked inside him and he decided he'd have to do it -- possibly in Boston. That's the kind of guy he is."

The actor has been hitting the treadmill every day since and is determined to record a better time than Katie, who ran New York in November just a year after giving birth to their daughter, Suri.

Katie finished in five hours, 29 minutes, and Cruise has vowed to "crush" her time.
