Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon obtain marriage license in Caribbean
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have made their marriage official---after obtaining a marriage license on the Caribbean island of Eleuthera.
According to marriage requirements for the Bahamas, a couple must be in the country for at least 48 hours, be over the age of 16 and have obtained a valid marriage license within 90 days, Monique Gomez, a Bahamian attorney in Nassau who specializes in family law, tells People magazine.
Carey obtained a license in Eleuthera within that time period.
"The minister would make sure [the license] goes into the registry. It's still a valid marriage even if it's not filed. Anywhere in the world," said Gomez.
The nuptials reportedly took place at Carey's private estate off Eleuthera.
Though there has been no official confirmation of the wedding, Linda Cannon revealed, "He called and told us all about it."
The pair were dating for less than two months before tying the knot.
It's Mariah's second marriage. She was married to record executive Tommy Mottola from 1993 – 1998.
Nick was previously engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks in 2007. However, the couple called off the engagement that same year.
When asked what he loved about Carey, Cannon said "everything."
A friend of Mariah's said, "Everyone is happy to see her happy.
"And it could work out -- some people know each other for five years and get divorced, maybe this is true instant love."
