Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in asbestos scare

Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been urged to seek medical advice over fears they could be infected with dangerous levels of deadly asbestos.

The pair -- who have a two-year-old daughter, Suri -- were partying with fellow Scientologist John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston on the Church Of Scientology cruise ship -- which was later discovered to have dangerous levels of blue asbestos.

As health officials warn the superstar couple to get checked out, toxicologist Dr. Chris Coggins explains: "This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because the fibers are smaller than the white asbestos and can penetrate the lung more easily.

"Once diagnosed with mesothelioma, the victim has six months to a year to live. It gradually reduces lung function until the victim is no longer able to breathe and dies."

The Church of Scientology cruise ship is often used to host birthday parties and events but is said to be undergoing tests for safety following the discovery of asbestos in its paneling.
