Status Quo rocker Rick Parfitt and his wife Lyndsay have introduced their miracle IVF twins to the world.
47-year-old Lyndsay gave birth to Tommy Oswald and Lily Rose (younger by two minutes) in Malaga last month by Caesarean section.
Rick, 59, is already a father to Richard, 33, and Harry, 19, from previous marriages.
Speaking to Britain’s Hello! magazine, he said, “I never thought this would happen to me at nearly 60 – that I would meet, fall in love, marry the girl of my dreams and then have two more beautiful children.
“I knew happiness was out there. I just couldn’t seem to find it. It’s almost as if I’ve started life again.
“Of all the things money can buy, nothing can buy you anything as valuable as these kids.”
Baby Lily Rose is named after Rick’s mother; and the couple eventually settled on ‘Tommy’ for their boy after debating over names Max and Zach.
Rick laughed, “We could have named him after the place he was born, as some people do, but Malaga Parfitt doesn’t quite work.
“I now have three sons – Tom, Dick and Harry. When we realized this we just had to laugh.”
Rick admits he wasn’t the best father to his two boys from a previous marriage, but says he has well and truly rolled his sleeves up and embraced fatherhood this time.
He explains, “Twenty years ago, the rock and roll lifestyle came first. I didn’t think of it any other way. I was on the road with the band and that was my life really. I had these lovely kids, Richard and Harry, and I didn’t see much of them.
“I was too preoccupied enjoying myself. Back then, there was no way I could have lived peacefully like this – it would have driven me mad.
“I’ve lived the rock and roll lifestyle to the max. I’ve had my heart bypass and suspected throat cancer but I’ve survived. A lot of my colleagues didn’t. I’m more together now than I’ve ever been. It’s unbelievably fantastic to be a dad again.”
Lyndsay added, “Tommy was two minutes older than his sister and a bit smaller at 4lbs 20z – she was 4lbs 5oz. Tears were rolling down my cheeks and I was amazed how beautiful they were.
“I never thought I’d be a mum, so I’m, savoring every single moment.”
