Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is single again — after dumping his model girlfriend of five months, Nereida Gallardo.
The pair recently holidayed together in Sardinia, and were seen all over each other on several occasions.
Portuguese tabloid 24 Horas said the reason for the split was “a secret of the gods”.
But it hinted that Ronaldo, who is being linked to a multimillion-pound move to Real Madrid, was tired of lurid headlines about Majorca-born Gallardo and her past.
Recent reports that Gallardo had a fling with Spain defender Sergio Ramos — who could become Ronaldo’s team-mate should his move to Real Madrid get the green light — will also not have helped.
It was also claimed she did not get on with Ronaldo’s mother Dolores, who believed the model was after her son’s money.
Gallardo had planned to spend the weekend in Portugal with Ronaldo but canceled her flight after injuring her foot in a fall.
Ronaldo is currently said to be resting at his home in Sintra, north of Lisbon, after undergoing an operation on his injured right ankle last week.
The footballer’s love fall out comes as he faces a backlash from United fans for hinting he wants a transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old has agreed with remarks made by Fifa chief Sepp Blatter who said he was a ’slave’ to United because of his contract with the club.
United today said they could not comment on the private lives of their players.
