Russell Brand Not Allowed to Mention Scientology at VMAs
British comedian Russell Brand has been banned from mentioning Scientology while he’s hosting the MTV VMAs in September.
The eccentric funnyman, known in America for starring in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, says he’s not allowed to make jokes about the controversial religion (of which actor Tom Cruise is a follower) – or swear.
He reveals, “I’ve been warned when I’m presenting there are two things I am never allowed to say.
“One – c***. And two – Scientology.
“There is one sentence that could join both of those words but I’m going to try and not say it.
“I have a problem when people tell me not to do something. When I was going to meet the Queen the protocol people told me how to bow, not to curtsy, not to speak until I was spoken to. But all I could think of was, ‘Grab her tit’!”
Russell has previously worked for MTV, but was sacked after turning up for work on September 12, 2001, dressed as Osama bin Laden.

Why can’t he say scientology…. oh yeah i forgot there a dangerous cult that like to sue the crap out of anybody who says anything bad about them. If he realy wants to piss off the cult of scientology he should come on stage with a V for Vendetta mask on.
Hail XENU
Brand is clearly one of Hubbard’s “bodies in pawn”, eager to do the Xenu’s eeeeeeevil bidding. Or maybe he’s a member of the Fifth Invader Force from their secret base in the Pyrenees . . .

Space is WILD! Go Russell!
Can anybody really take the Cult serioulsy anymore?
I mean, they are a total farce at their best, and a creepy cult run by sociopaths at worst.
Have you seen the video of their leader giving a medal to Tom Cruise? I think they called it a ‘valor medal of freedom’ or something. Their leader? Creepy. The whole ceremony? Creepy. Tom Cruise? Creepy.
Seriously, that is one creepy cult.
And now I hear they have a labour camp in Florida, the RPF! Labour camps! With children! WTF?
Did anyone see Glosslip talking about it? Or jason Beghe? He was well angry!
Roger Gonnet, ex-leader of a scientology organization cult profit-center.
It happens too in France: I’ve by instance refused to be part of shows where the name of that cult was forbidden, while the topic was… cults!
This suppression of freedom of speech was brought to you the litigious corporate cult that markets it’s self as the “Bridge to Total Freedom™©”. The Church of Scientology is so crooked it’s scary.
Why should it be? They claim to offer total freedom, how, by suppressing the freedoms of others? They claim to be able to communicate with anyone, how, by blocking their ears to criticism and then attacking critics with lawyers, slurs and vile campaigns of hate? Scientology is a hot target for satire and comedy and deservedly so.
I can see c***, obviously, and some other obscene things…American (and our own Canadian television up my way here…) isn’t built to handle that. However, banning him talking about Scientology is a really strange move o_O. I do hope he somehow manages to behave himself, love his comedy, would hate to see him banned or something. (Even if my first reaction to the news he was hosting was ‘Oh god, we’ll need a 10 minute delay and a muzzle o.o’ ^_~)
What other “church” out there litigates when someone uses their freedom of speech to joke about them? OK, so he gets banned. What’s more important? I have $20 ready. Anyone else want to start a “Save Russell” fund to help him along in the event he does get banned and falls on hard times? I’d say it’s worth it, personally.
Oh, and I think it would be totally epic if he does it in the Guy Fawkes mask!!
